Explain This Bob Twitter Bot Suspended After Elon Musk Alleges Scam

A Twitter bot that claimed to provide explanations for cryptocurrency-related terms has been suspended after Elon Musk alleged it was a scam.

The bot, called “Explain This Bob,” was created by a user named “Bob” and had over 400,000 followers. The bot would tweet out a cryptocurrency-related term and then provide a definition or explanation for it.

Elon Musk´s Tweet

On June 18, Musk tweeted a link to a tweet from the Explain This Bob bot. In the tweet, the bot defined the term “rug pull” as “a type of cryptocurrency scam in which investors are lured into buying a coin or token with false promises, only to have the developers abandon the project and run away with the funds.”

Musk responded to the tweet by saying, “This sure looks like a scam crypto account. If so, it will be suspended.”

Shortly after Musk’s tweet, the Explain This Bob account was suspended.

Why was it banned?

It is unclear why the account was suspended. Twitter has not commented on the matter.

However, Musk’s tweet has raised concerns about the security of cryptocurrency investments.

Cryptocurrency scams are a growing problem. In 2021, investors lost over $7.8 billion to cryptocurrency scams, according to the Federal Trade Commission.
